Faebound

A few of my favourite things: Deity, Elves, Fae and explorations of Humanity.

Faebound first had me at the cover. The promise of a premise, part one (not to be confused with chapter one), the implication that a thrilling adventure would be had in a magical universe with tasty dialogue, impressive world building and perhaps some exciting revelations at the turn of each page. Faebound then promptly seemed to go out of its own way to reveal itself in a way that could only ever have been intended to take away every hint of joy the story could have provided me.

I picked this book up and put it down many times in the space of three weeks. I made excuses. It’s not the book, it’s me.

The next paragraph will hook me.

If I can just get past this chapter.

I just need to round one more corner…and my God this felt like being tortured with homework. My eyes glazed over, I wilfully skipped sections and just couldn’t connect with so much of this despite how much of the world I wanted to love.

I kept trying to find/ catch/ feel a rhythm with Feabound.

Is it the book?

Is it me?

I like a good prophetic story. Even better if there’s a curse or two to contend with but right now, I’m 26% into Faebound and I’ve given up.

It’s the book. It felt cursed. I didn’t like it. DNF.

If Faebound is currently on your shelf, I hope you find pleasure in it for us both.
